The Honourable Russell Juriansz was a practising lawyer for 24 years, both in government and private practice, until 1998 when he was appointed a judge of the Ontario Superior Court. He later became a judge on the Court of Appeal for Ontario in 2004 and served for over 17 years until September 2021. Mr. Juriansz brings to his practice as an independent arbitrator and mediator his extensive experience in hearing and deciding disputes efficiently. Mr. Juriansz is a part time member of the Capital Markets Tribunal.

The Honourable Russell Juriansz was a practising lawyer for 24 years, both in government and private practice, until 1998 when he was appointed a judge of the Ontario Superior Court. Mr. Juriansz was President of the Ontario Superior Court Judges’ Association for almost 2 years, until his elevation to the Court of Appeal for Ontario where he served for over 17 years, from 2004 to September 2021. As a trial and appellate judge, Mr. Juriansz heard a wide range of commercial, corporate, and other matters.  

Mr. Juriansz was born in India and immigrated to Canada in 1955. He was the first Canadian of South Asian origin to be appointed to the Superior Court and the first racialized judge of the Court of Appeal. 

He obtained a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto in 1969, and an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1972. Mr. Juriansz was a partner at a major national law firm before opening his own firm. His practice included a focus on human rights and constitutional law. He was also an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, and was a frequent writer, editor, and speaker there. 

As a judge, Mr. Juriansz actively promoted the use of technology to increase judicial productivity, and was a member of the courts’ technology committees: Superior Court's technology committee, Court of Appeal's technology committee: Canadian Judicial Council's subcommittee on technology, and Tri-Court Technology committee. 

In 2015, he was awarded an honorary LL.D. by the Law Society of Upper Canada (now Law Society of Ontario), and he received the Pioneer Award in 2016 from the North American South Asian Bar Association. 

Mr. Juriansz brings to his practice as an independent arbitrator and mediator his extensive experience in hearing and deciding disputes efficiently. Mr. Juriansz is a part time member of the Capital Markets Tribunal.
