Lisa Munro is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and has achieved the Qualified Arbitrator (Q.Arb.) designation from the ADR Institute of Canada (ADRIC). She is an arbitrator on the Arbitration Place, Vancouver International Arbitration Centre (VanIAC), and Toronto Commercial Arbitration Society (TCAS) rosters. Lisa is also partner of Lerners LLP in Toronto and brings to her role as arbitrator over 25 years of experience as litigation counsel with expertise in a broad range of commercial disputes. She has experience in both domestic and international arbitrations (both ad hoc and under institutional rules) in disputes arising from contracts in a variety of sectors.
She has consistently demonstrated her strengths in decision making, business judgment, and conflict resolution in her executive leadership roles within her firm. She is a former member of Lerners LLP’s Executive Committee (2007 to 2019) and served as the Toronto Office co-Managing Partner (2008 to 2017) and Managing Partner (2018 to 2019).
Lisa is a director of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Canada Branch. She is also a director of ADRIC and the Chair of its Arbitration Committee. She is a member of TCAS and the former co-Chair of the TCAS Executive Committee. She is also a member of the ICC Canada Arbitration Committee.
Lisa is one of four instructors of the TCAS Gold Standard Course in Domestic and International Commercial Arbitration in Canada, the successful completion of which satisfies the requirements for ADRIC’s Q.Arb. designation. She is the editor of Arbitration Matters (www.arbitrationmatters.com), which provides monthly summaries of key arbitration decisions as they are released by courts across Canada, with commentary. A digest of the most recent case summaries is sent to subscribers (for free). She also hosts a live webinar series called “Arbitration Boot Camp”, in which she talks about a broad range of international and domestic arbitration issues – from a practical perspective so that viewers can apply them in practice. Lisa is a frequent speaker on both domestic and international commercial arbitration topics for TCAS, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Canada Branch, Osgoode Professional Development, ADRIC, CanArb Week, Winkler Institute for Dispute Resolution/International Academy of Mediators/Osgoode Professional Development, and Ontario Bar Association. She has also published in the Canadian Journal of Commercial Arbitration.
